Status:
The soprano pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pygmaeus) was only recently differentiated from the common pipistrelle (P. Pipistrellus) and at present its protection status is often not distinguished from the common pipistrelle in the UK; it is a UK BAP Priority Species due to a population decline over the past thirty years.
Some details of its global distribution are still lacking. National distribution is thought to be throughout mainland Britain (with the exception of the far north of Scotland) and Ireland. Distribution of the soprano pipistrelle within Snowdonia is widespread.
