This project began in 2005 to record all mammal species in the Snowdonia National Park in every 1km² of the area.  2009 was the final year of recording and the intention is to publish the findings in 2010. As at March 2009 we had 10,300 records but there are still plenty of gaps to be filled.

The most recent maps that we have generated show that the coverage for bat species in particular has improved over the past year, which is to be expected with the focus of the bat project. The easier to record species are also improving, like field voles, moles and foxes, however, other relatively common species still have big recording gaps, e.g. grey squirrels. We still need to follow up on a number of different leads for existing datasets and if anyone can help us with this we would be very grateful.

Please keep your records coming! Creating the mammal atlas is just the start and it needs to be constantly updated. Send them to snowdoniamammals@aol.com
