The Snowdonia Mammal Group was established in 2005 to better understand the distribution and challenges of mammals in this beautiful part of the world.

We work on a variety of projects the biggest of which is the Snowdonia Mammal Atlas, a massive project mapping the distribution of mammals across 2,500 1 km² squares on the ordnance survey map. The project results are to be published in 2010.

During the course of the year we have a comprehensive programme of events that includes expeditions to monitor geographic areas and / or specific species. Training and equipment are provided as and when necessary. We also hold occasional meetings with guest speakers, typically at Plas Tan y Bwlch.

Joining the group is currently free of charge and the modest running costs are funded from fees received for paid project work.

New members are always welcome whether expert or novice. It’s a fun group to belong to with lots of excuses for exploring Snowdonia and the chance to learn new skills!
